Beyond the Basics: Drill & Play | November 17 | "Sky's the Limit"
This coaching clinic is meant for players with competitive pickleball experience who are looking to level up with modern mindset & tactics.
The session will be broken down into two distinct topics, and we will blend them together as we close out the clinic.
“Sky’s the Limit:” All About Lobs: Lobbing has become a real weapon in modern pickleball, especially if you use it offensively to dictate the point and at the right time. Conversely, knowing how to defend the lob has, by necessity, become an equally important skill in pickleball.
Lobbing: Re-draw the battle line
Most players pick the wrong time to lob, usually used as a panic move. Instead, we’ll show you the offensive power of the lob, your options in launching one deliberately (when & how), and what to do next. Of course, sometimes, the defensive lob is useful for when you’re simply stuck and need to get out of trouble……your approach to this shot will dictate whether it works.
We’ll demo the ‘what’ & ‘why to all of this, drill the options to get you comfortable with them, and then play points out to give you opportunities to put them into practice.
Lob Defense: One step back, two steps forward
Lobs happen, and they are happening more & more often…..what’s your plan if the ball is suddenly over your head and disappearing fast? Everyone gets lobbed successfully- the better players know how to adjust and punish future lob attempts. A combination of pattern recognition, court positioning, footwork, and choosing the right option will get you back to neutral before the opponent realizes their attempted advantage is already gone.
We’ll drill on these skills and scenarios and then ingrain them through play. We’ll work with each player on how to best set themselves up for success, drill these tweaks, and cement them through group play.
