The Pickleball Blueprint: How Paddle Up is Helping "Build Janesville" One Rally at a Time

"How do you build Janesville, Lisa?"

It is a fantastic question, and one that has been at the forefront of my mind lately. With Forward Janesville's new Build Janesville initiative gaining momentum, the conversation around our city's future is louder and more exciting than ever.

This past Thursday morning, I sat at the City Leaders Breakfast, taking in the dialogue. The room was buzzing with discussions about economic prosperity, regional expansion, and exactly what we can do in Southern Wisconsin to promote serious business growth. Listening to those leaders, I couldn’t help but reflect on my own mission. At Paddle Up Solutions, we aren't pouring concrete or framing subdivisions, but make no mistake: we are absolutely in the business of building Janesville.

We are just using a slightly different blueprint. We are building it on the pickleball court.

The Boardroom Meets the Baseline

First and foremost, we are building Janesville by building stronger, more resilient teams.

When businesses look for a destination to plant their flags, they look at the workforce. Through our Rally Your Workplace corporate teambuilding experiences, we are actively bolstering workplace culture in a way that traditional icebreakers simply cannot touch.

We all know a "Sally" and a "Jim." They are the two colleagues who seem to be at each other's throats from 9 to 5, constantly misfiring on projects. Now, imagine putting Sally and Jim on the same side of a pickleball net as a mixed doubles team. Suddenly, they have to learn how to be good partners. They quickly realize that communication, resilience, body language, and timing dictate the final outcome of the game - exactly as they do in the office.

By combining the explosive growth of pickleball with professional connection, we are helping transform Janesville into a premier workplace destination.

Redefining the "Healthy" Workforce

We all want a healthier workforce for our region, but "healthy" looks entirely different depending on who you ask. When an employer invests in a Paddle Up teambuilding experience, the return on investment shows up in brilliant, unexpected ways:

  • Stronger Mental Health: It provides a desperately needed outlet to relieve stress and anxiety, replacing deadlines with dinks.

  • A Shift in Mindset: Team members cultivate a profound sense of positivity when they realize their employer cares enough to bring them together for a genuinely fun social outing.

  • Water Cooler Magic: It looks like Sally and Jim laughing in the break room because they both dumped the pickleball into the net so many times they were crying with laughter. It sparks connections that no forced corporate seminar ever could.

  • Embracing Change: It looks like professionals finding a brand-new passion that adds physical activity to their daily routines. Learning a new sport requires vulnerability and adaptability; skills that translate beautifully when new processes or changes are introduced back at the office.

Happy team members are productive team members. Do we really believe we can build a more efficient workforce simply by putting them on a pickleball court?

You better believe it. It might just be the best business strategy your team ever executes in sneakers.

Raising the Garage Doors

On the other side of the ledger, Paddle Up Solutions is building a stronger Janesville by rapidly growing the number of pickleball players in our region.

We aren't just talking about it, either; we are putting paddles in hands. By launching our Master the Basics introductory pickleball classes this past Spring, we have successfully introduced over 30 brand-new players to the sport so far in 2026. Now, 30 might not sound like an earth-shattering number to some. But let's be real: that is 30 more people out on the courts, moving, and connecting than we had on January 1st. Every single one of those players represents a new connection in our city. Not to mention the built-in force multiplier: those 30 players are already bringing their friends, families, and professional networks onto the courts right alongside them

Why are those connections so crucial? Because we have a quiet epidemic in our neighborhoods today. People go to work, drive home, pull into the driveway, put the garage door down, and keep entirely to themselves. We simply don't talk to our neighbors the way we used to.

Pickleball is the ultimate antidote to isolation. It is an amazing, magnetic game that inherently forces you to interact, laugh, and build relationships with people you might never have crossed paths with otherwise. Growing the sport means getting those garage doors to open back up. It means getting people talking on the courts, forging a new community of friends, and getting back to the business of actually caring about and showing up for one another.

We need that connection now more than ever, regardless of where you lay your head at night.

Laying a New Kind of Foundation

Building Janesville isn't just about brick, mortar, and bottom lines. It is about collaboration, community, fun, stewardship, and teamwork. It is about creating a happier, healthier, and more connected region. And at Paddle Up Solutions, we are incredibly proud to be leading that charge. One serve, one dink, and one stronger team at a time.
